Hello friends
Just one week to go until the launch of the book 'How To Be A Games User Researcher’ - my step by step guide on how to develop the skills required to run playtests professionally, and get a job in games.
Here’s a quick update with some last details!
When is the book available and what will it cost?
The book will be for sale on Tuesday 9th February.
The kindle version can be pre-ordered here, and will cost £9.99/$9.99
The paperback version is not available for pre-order but will cost £17/$23. (I personally think the paperback version is best, as you get to see the full awesome cover created by Chloe True but some people like digital things!). On launch day, I’ll email out a direct link to get the paperback version.
Also for the first two weeks, there will be a discount on the paperback book of 25%, which means it will cost only £12.74/$17.12.
I’ve tried really hard to keep production costs down and make sure the book is priced as low as possible (it’s not one of the $60 textbooks that are made to be charged to corporate accounts!). I want the book to be accessible to as many people as possible. Do grab it at a discount if you can!
What should I do while I’m waiting for the book?
If you’re interested in hearing more about games user research, you can check out this interview between myself and Sebastian Long, MD of Player Research. We covered topics such as:
– Testing new technology in games
– Why games user research often starts with usability
– What’s in a user research study
– Why does everyone always ask for focus groups?
– Advice for mentors and mentees
– Practical tips for practising games user research
– The future of #gamesUR
I really appreciate Seb giving up his time, and coming up with insightful questions - it was a great chat!
I would also be extremely grateful if you’d share this newsletter with colleagues, peers and friends you feel might be interested! Here’s a button which will allow you to do that:
What happens after launch?
The book’s release is only the start of our games user research journey. We’ll be sending out free monthly updates and content for people looking to break into the industry, including:
Tips about getting into the industry
Resources to practise your GUR skills
Stories from people who have successfully made the journey into GUR
and more. So stay tuned!
Thanks!
Thanks again for subscribing. I’m very excited about the release next week, and I really appreciate your interest in the book.
If you have any questions or want to talk about getting into GUR, do drop me an email by replying to this newsletter - I’m always happy to chat!
